Azmi H. - 09.09.2022 When this album came out in February 1970, critics said it was a rehashing of the late '60s blues rock like Cream. But it became immediately obvious that it was much more than that, as the fans quickly latched on and copies of the album began flying off record store shelves.
| | HYUNG RAE K. - 07.01.2022 One of the albums that birthed heavy metal as I'm sure all here know. Must have for any metalhead or fan of blues driven hard rock. Greatest thing about this CD remaster is that it digitally combines intrumental tracks with main tracks. So if you rip it you don't have to listen to stupid skips in the music. I wish every band would combine tracks that should be played together like this.
| | Michael B. - 12.11.2020 To my mind Black Sabbath, the album, which is often regarded as one of the first Heavy Metal full length releases is also first Doom Metal releise. This expanded two CD deluxe edition of the 1970 debut album from the British Metal legends includes a bonus disc containing nine previously unreleased tracks.
Classic must-have!
| | Vladislav M. - 08.04.2020 It is difficult to evaluate the icon of the genre. A brilliant album, which later influenced many genres of extreme heavy music.
| | Yuriy P. - 11.03.2019 Undoubtedly, this is a classic.
However, the "classic" and "masterpiece" - this is not the same thing. And just the debut of this legendary team is the clearest confirmation of this. The impression is that the group has not yet recovered, and has not fully honed its game and style. Ozzy Osbourne's vocals are generally distinguished by pronounced medium features. It was even noted by the musicians themselves at the very beginning ... It also gives primitivism its style of singing, based on repeated repetition of a note to a note of the same “vocal riff”. However, his voice was distinguished by such rudeness and gloomy intonation (at that time) that it perfectly suited the “apocalyptic” image of the group. Tony Iommi immediately showed his talent, though far from full force. Here in his game a blues influence still clearly manifested itself. I can’t say anything about the rhythm section ... They play great.
Of the individual compositions, of course, it should be noted the opening thing of the album of the same name - “Black Sabbath”. That's where I went there doom metal! A very effective beginning is the simplest, most formidable, exuding an other-worldly darkness, a thing! No wonder that the album is honored for the revolutionary. It is also a very interesting “The Wizard”, remembered by its recognizable motif and harmonica. The short song “Sleeping Village” is full of gloomy charm ... But the longest thing - the cover of “Warning” - in my opinion, a clear puncture in compositional terms. Very long with an irrepressibly long guitar solo in the second part. It is clear that Tony wanted to shine with skill, but for this to happen it was not at all necessary to concoct such a huge and miserable composition, the separate parts of which are in no way connected with each other. Yes, and skill, frankly, Tony did not shine ...
In general, the album creates a rather powerful impression. But not by technique and melodies, but rather by stylistics. Nobody did such dark and heavy music then. The group gave the world a new style, which later became a solid foundation for all heavier styles. And this is not enough. However, this is not a reason to overestimate and idealize their specific creations.
| | Ivica S. - 05.08.2018 This is album for a musical history - everything on this album is so GOOD - I recommend
| | Vagner C. - 15.07.2018 The beggining of all metal, heavy, doom, whatever... Black Sabbath, the album, is considered by many the genesis of all metal, the major landmark in rock n roll story. Deluxe edition with alternative and instrumental versions of the songs, as well nice outtakes. Great!!!
