Eugene S. - 29.04.2024 The first full-length studio album by Swiss extreme metal band Celtic Frost, released in October 1985. The album was a major influence on the then-developing death metal and black metal genres. I recommend.
| | Alexander S. - 14.02.2021 Celtic Frost is a band that has greatly influenced the development of heavy music. Their third work "To Mega Therion" is one of those that set the vector for the development of many genres of the metal scene. The sound on the album, although executed in one key, still contains many constituent protoelements of the modern metal movement. The album is characterized by the layering of the thrash-rhythm of many compositions on the atmosphere of doom-metal. Fischer's vocals, as if declaiming something, remain equally unhurried throughout the album, shouting out phrases. Although the vocals remain almost clean, they still create an atmosphere no less than modern black vocals. The sound of the album changes from the plummeting fingering of one riff to a fast thrash rhythm. The real hits of the album can be called "Circle of the Tyrants" and "Dawn of Meggido" which became classics. The first composition is filled with progressive sounding at that time, energy and eerie atmosphere akin to the current black metal. "Dawn of Meggido" - on the contrary, slow dragging like a tooth pain composition Later on "Circle of the Tyrants @" will cover bands such as Opeth and Obituary. The album was not without proto death-elements, so the song "Fainted Eyes" can be called death-metal. The disc also features "Tears in a Prophet's Dream" - a short but great darkwave filled with nightmarish sounds in the spirit of the whole album. On the whole, the album is a splendid work that can hardly be overestimated. Filled with an unforgettable atmosphere of darkness and nightmares, frosty prickly, "To Mega Therion" is a milestone in the history of heavy music, which, in its musical content, anticipated the sound of many metal bands. Just one example can be cited to prove the influence: Therion is a famous band, got its name from the title of this album.
