Harry Christophers / Works By Purcell |
 | Beschreibung: | On this release, Harry Christophers and The Sixteen continue their exploration of Purcell's stunning music written for royal occasions on the third album in their acclaimed series. King Charles II liked to project a strong, stable, divinely legitimated image. Whilst that image had no basis in reality, the scale of his deception and financial skulduggery did not emerge until 19th-century historians discovered secret treaty documents between Charles and King Louis XIV of France. Purcell had no idea of course, and so all of the music on this album celebrates the political triumphs that he and his colleagues thought they had witnessed. It includes the quite brilliant Welcome Songs 'Welcome to all the pleasures' (with it's superb six-part fanfares to St Cecilia in the final chorus) and 'From hardy climes'., Runningtime: 00:00:00, Alto Vocals: Daniel Collins, Bass Vocals: Ben Davies (5), Bass Vocals: Stuart Young (2), Cello: Imogen Seth-Smith, Cello: Jonathan Rees (4), Cello: Joseph Crouch, Composed By: Henry Purcell, Cover [Illustration]: Marcellus Laroon, Design: Andrew Giles (3), Directed By, Liner Notes: Harry Christophers, Engineer [Recording]: Mike Hatch, Ensemble: The Sixteen, Harp: Frances Kelly, Liner Notes: Andrew Pinnock, Organ, Harpsichord: Alastair Ross, Producer [Recording]: Mark Brown (4), Soprano Vocals: Katy Hill, Soprano Vocals: Kirsty Hopkins, Tenor Vocals: George Pooley, Tenor Vocals: Jeremy Budd, Tenor Vocals: Mark Dobell, Theorbo: David Miller (7), Viola: Katie Heller, Viola: Martin Kelly (3), Viola: Stefanie Heichelheim, Violin [II]: Daniel Edgar, Violin [II]: Ellen O'Dell, Violin [II]: Jean Paterson, Violin [I]: Sarah Moffatt, Violin [I]: Sophie Barber, Violin [I], Concertmistress: Sarah Sexton, Labelcode CORO16173.2 (COR16173), Phonographic Copyright (p) The Sixteen Productions, Copyright (c) The Sixteen Productions, Recorded At St. Augustine's Church, Kilburn | | Herstellernummer: |
