 | Beschreibung: | 2014 release, the eighth album from Dave Grohl and Co. Though not a soundtrack album by any stretch, SONIC HIGHWAYS shares it's title with the Grohl-directed eight-episode HBO series described by Grohl as a love letter to the history of American music. For the album and series, the Foo Fighters wrote and recorded one song in each of these eight cities, delving into the local musical currents. All songs feature local legends sitting in, with every lyric written in an unprecedented experimental style. 'This album is instantly recognizable as a Foo Fighters record, but there's something deeper and more musical to it. I think that these cities and these people influenced us to stretch out and explore new territory, without losing our sound.' - Dave Grohl., Runningtime: 00:00:00, Art Direction, Design: Morning Breath Inc., Band, Bass Guitar: Nate Mendel, Band, Drums: Taylor Hawkins, Band, Guitar: Chris Shiflett, Band, Guitar: Pat Smear, Band, Vocals, Guitar: Dave Grohl, Cover [Illustration]: Stephan Martiniere, Engineer [Studio Assistance, Mixing]: Dakota Bowman, Engineer [Studio Assistance, Mixing]: John Lousteau, Legal: Jill Berliner, Legal: King, Holmes, Paterno & Berliner, Management: Silva Artist Management, Management [Business]: Cathryn Krauel, Management [Business]: Lee Johnson (7), Management [Business]: VWC, Mastered By: Gavin Lurssen, Mastered By: Reuben Cohen, Photography By: Andrew Stuart, Photography By: Ringo Starr, Producer: Butch Vig, Producer: Foo Fighters, Recorded By, Mixed By: James Brown (2), Written-By: Foo Fighters, Backing Vocals [Background Vocals]: Dave Grohl, Backing Vocals [Background Vocals]: Taylor Hawkins, Baritone Guitar: Rick Nielsen, Bass: Nate Mendel, Clavinet, Organ, Mellotron: Rami Jaffee, Drums: Taylor Hawkins, Engineer [Studio Assistance]: Greg Norman, Engineer [Studio Assistance]: Jon San Paolo, Guitar: Chris Shiflett, Guitar: Pat Smear, Lead Vocals, Guitar: Dave Grohl, Backing Vocals [Background Vocals]: Dave Grohl, Backing Vocals [Background Vocals]: Taylor Hawkins, Backing Vocals [Gang Vocals]: Peter Stahl, Backing Vocals [Gang Vocals]: Skeeter Thompson, Backing Vocals [Gang Vocals]: Taylor Hawkins, Bass: Nate Mendel, Drums: Taylor Hawkins, Engineer [Inner Ear Guru]: Don Zientara, Guitar: Chris Shiflett, Guitar: Pat Smear, Lead Vocals, Guitar: Dave Grohl, Organ: Rami Jaffee, Backing Vocals [Background Vocals]: Zac Brown (3), Bass: Nate Mendel, Drums: Taylor Hawkins, Engineer [Studio Assistance]: Ben Simonetti, Engineer [Studio Assistance]: Brandon Bell, Engineer [Studio Assistance]: Matt Mangano, Guitar: Chris Shiflett, Guitar: Pat Smear, Lead Guitar [Devil Pickin']: Chris Shiflett, Lead Guitar [Devil Pickin']: Zac Brown (3), Lead Vocals, Guitar: Dave Grohl, Piano, Organ: Rami Jaffee, Backing Vocals [Background Vocals]: Taylor Hawkins, Bass: Nate Mendel, Drums: Taylor Hawkins, Engineer [Studio Assistance]: Charlie Bolois, Engineer [Studio Assistance]: John Lousteau, Guitar: Chris Shiflett, Guitar: Pat Smear, Lead Guitar: Gary Clark Jr., Lead Vocals, Guitar: Dave Grohl, Piano, Organ [Wurlitzer], Mellotron, Organ: Rami Jaffee, Tambourine: Drew Hester, Backing Vocals [Background Vocals]: Chris Goss, Backing Vocals [Background Vocals]: Taylor Hawkins, Bass: Nate Mendel, Drums: Taylor Hawkins, Engineer [Rancho Guru]: Mathias Schneeberger, Engineer [Studio Assistance]: Charlie Bolois, Guitar: Chris Shiflett, Guitar: Pat Smear, Lead Guitar: Joe Walsh, Lead Vocals, Guitar: Dave Grohl, Mellotron, Organ: Rami Jaffee, Backing Vocals [Background Vocals]: Taylor Hawkins, Backing Vocals [Gang Vocals]: Chris Shiflett, Backing Vocals [Gang Vocals]: Clint Maedgen, Backing Vocals [Gang Vocals]: Dave Grohl, Backing Vocals [Gang Vocals]: James A Rota II, Backing Vocals [Gang Vocals]: John Lousteau, Backing Vocals [Gang Vocals]: Rami Jaffee, Backing Vocals [Gang Vocals]: Ronell Johnson, Backing Vocals [Gang Vocals]: Taylor Hawkins, Bass: Nate Mendel, Brass: Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Clarinet: Charlie Gabriel, Drums: Taylor Hawkins, Engineer [Studio Assistance]: Charlie Bolois, Engineer [Studio Assistance]: John Lousteau, Guitar: Chris Shiflett, Guitar: Pat Smear, Lead Vocals, Guitar: Dave Grohl, Organ, Piano: Rami Jaffee, Saxophone: Clint Maedgen, Trombone: Freddie Lonzo, Trumpet: Mark Braud, Tuba: Ben Jaffe (3), Tuba: Ronell Johnson, Backing Vocals [Background Vocals]: Ben Gibbard, Bass: Nate Mendel, Drums: Taylor Hawkins, E-Bow: Barrett Jones, E-Bow: Dave Grohl, Engineer [Studio Assistance]: Justin Armstrong, Engineer [Studio Assistance]: Marcel Fernandez, Guitar: Chris Shiflett, Guitar: Pat Smear, Lead Vocals, Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Cymbal: Dave Grohl, Organ, Organ [Wurlitzer], Mellotron: Rami Jaffee, Arranged By [Strings]: Tony Visconti, Backing Vocals [Background Vocals]: Kristeen Young, Bass: Nate Mendel, Contractor [Orchestra]: Shari Sutcliffe, Coordinator [Orchestra]: Jamie Sutcliffe, Drums: Taylor Hawkins, Engineer [Studio Assistance]: Christopher Shurtleff, Engineer [Studio Assistance]: Kabir Hermon, Guitar: Chris Shiflett, Guitar: Pat Smear, Lead Vocals, Guitar: Dave Grohl, Organ, Piano, Keyboards [Space Keys]: Rami Jaffee, Strings: Los Angeles Youth Orchestra, Tambourine: Drew Hester, Labelcode RCA309008.2 (88843-09008-2, 88843-09008-2), Marketed By Sony Music Entertainment, Distributed By Sony Music Entertainment, Phonographic Copyright (p) Roswell Records, Inc., Copyright (c) Roswell Records, Inc., Published By M.J. Igor G. - 20.04.2018 Released on RCA Records in 2014, “Sonic Highways” is the eighth studio album by the American rock band FOO FIGHTERS. Despite initially announcing a break after supporting the band’s previous album, singer and guitarist Dave Grohl later stated in that the band had started writing material for a new album. It’s said, that in writing the album's eight songs, he traveled to eight cities across the United States talking to various people about each city's musical history, which he used as inspiration for both the songs' lyrics and melodies. Each track on “Sonic Highways” features contributions from musicians with ties to that city's musical history (Ben Gibbard of Death Cub For Cutie, Chris Goss of Masters Of Reality, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick, Joe Walsh of Jame’s Gang and Eagles among many others). Whatever the story is, “Sonic Highways” is recognizably Foo Fighters’s recording that features energetic Grunge, Power-Pop-Punk, and Arena-Rock for masses. All songs on the album go a straight and quite predictable path, though revealing some new melodic nuances along the way. If the album's initial idea was to bring bluesy, jazzy, or root flavor into Grohl’s song-writing process, I couldn’t call this experiment a success. However, “Sonic Highways” still is a solid, professionally done, big-budget album which might be your liking if you enjoy glamour post-grunge power-pop.
