Manu Ktache's brilliance as a drummer should be obvious, given who he has played with over the years - Peter Gabriel, Sting, Jeff Beck, to name a few. His skill at composition, structure and overall musicianship are brought to the fore on "Unstatic", his first recording for the Paris based label Ante Prima. Brilliant arrangements, incisive solos and a tight, disciplined band combine to create one of the more eye-opening jazz releases of the year. The band has a frontline of sax, trumpet and trombone, enhanced by four percussionists. Katche is a complete musician. Subtlety and a deep sense of melody inform all of his work.
