The fifteenth studio album by American thrash metal band Megadeth. Dystopia received mostly favorable reaction from critics, being considered a return to form for the band. I recommend.

Great thrash album that will have you returning for multiple listens. Much better than previous 3 albums. Not to say those albums were "bad".

Well, here's the release of the album. What is he? On first listening, I was unable to answer this question. I was struck by the layering, technicality, heavier sound and the absence of obvious melodic hits. The songs "Dystopia" and "Poisonous Shadows" caught on with melodies, and even then in the choruses, wrapped in layers of guitars. Listening again, I focused on the rhythm guitar parts and then everything fell into place, unfolded and shone! The album carried me away on the rise, so many quality riffs and ideas from MEGADETH I forgot when I heard. Bassist David Ellefson previously announced musically complex and sometimes heavy music. Yes, Mr. Ellefson did not cheat! The album is really cool! And riffs, and solos, and bass, and drums! Such a harmonious connection has not been observed in the group for a very long time. I had time to listen to the first three songs, like everything before the release of the album, of which the favorite was "Dystopia", so starting with "Death From Within" for the next three tracks I was already defeated. Fighter after fighter finished me off. Unusually tough, juicy, driving. And then there's “Poisonous Shadows” with Arabic motifs, orchestrations, a wonderful, masculine melodic chorus and an unexpected piano at the end performed by Kiko Loureiro. A very soulful song. Then to the end, everything continues no less tasty: riffs, solos, rhythms for every taste. Whether it was the really interesting instrumental "Conquer Or Die" or the hooligan "The Emperor" I had a lot of fun listening to.

After a rather sluggish Super Collaider, Dave Mustein made the only right decision. Namely, he replaced mediocre musicians with, if not brilliant, then at least very good ones and who have already made a name for themselves in other bands. I was a little confused by the choice of Kiko Laureiro. Still, Angra is a power group, with progressive again "on you". However, Kiko did exactly what was required - he returned to the Megadeth guitar solo the grace and exquisite melody of Marty Friedman's time. And the shred in his performance sends the listener to albums on which Chris Poland was responsible for the solo guitar parts. In addition, Kiko was noted in a number of topics as a co-author, and this is for a beginner in a very undemocratic group, not bad at all. I will make a reservation right away - I am absolutely not familiar with the work of Lamb of God. I only know that this group has been playing for a long time and enjoys certain popularity (at least, even I heard about it). However, it is immediately clear that Chris Adler is a true professional and more gifted musician than his predecessor as drummer Shawn Drover. His parts are more diverse and are a sort of powerful musical basis for all the songs on the album. David Ellefson on this album, however, as always, is professional and assembled, and his bass guitar has long been one of the most important elements in the sound of the group. It's good that he managed to return to Megadeth. We managed to get to know the first three songs of the album in sufficient detail in advance, since they were released by singles. Therefore, it was already clear in advance what the new Megadeth album would be and it was encouraging, because all three tracks sound great. Technically, moderately melodic, quite heavy and trashy. Here I will make a reservation that Megadeth always played quite intellectual and melodic thrash without the “Rubilov” so beloved by orthodox thrashers in the spirit of, for example, Slayer. This gives rise to many claim that Megadeth is not thrash metal, but just heavy. I do not agree with this, because the band in general and Dystopia in particular have enough thrash riffs. All the songs on the album are interesting. There are no passing topics, as well as unconditional leaders. The material is quite homogeneous and monolithic, but almost every track has its own “highlight”. Of course, the title track is immediately remembered, I personally caused some associations with the incorruptible "Hangar 18", the beautiful and finely thought out composition "Poisonous Shadows", as well as the very pleasant instrumental "Conquer or Die", starting on an acoustic guitar and causing nostalgia for an unforgettable "Foreclosure of a Dream." But the rest of the material will not leave indifferent the real fan of the group. Listen at least to “Fatal Illusion” with its interesting melodic solutions and assertive “Post-American World” with an even trivial, but still caressing ear piece on an acoustic guitar in front of a luxurious guitar solo. I would not like to discuss vocal parts. Everyone has long known how she sings, or rather, Dave Mustaine speaks with a recitative. It annoys someone, it suits me perfectly, without Mustaine's vocals, Megadeth is not Megadeth. However, it seemed to me that on "Dystopia" the vocals did not sound as harsh as on previous albums. To summarize, I would like to say that I am pleasantly surprised by the achievements of Mustaine and Co. result. On the one hand, "Dystopia" does not offer anything revolutionary new in comparison with the work of the group over the past 15 years. On the other hand, the album sounds somehow special, brighter or something, than its predecessors and refers the listener to the already canonical "So Far, So Good ... So What!", "Rust in Peace", "Countdown to Extinction "and" Youthanasia. "

Parece que por Megadeth no pasan los años, pues la calidad musical de la banda sigue estando a tope! metal técnico fresco y aplastante, en lo particular prefiero estos trabajos de Megadeth a los mas recientes de Metallica. Totalmente recomendado...!
