Pavement's extraordinary fifth album is their first to be recorded on 24 tracks and the fist to features the production work of Nigel Godrich (Radiohead OK Computer, Beck Mutations). The result is a spacious, detailed sound, bigger than any previous Pavement record. The guitars are crystalline, the highs and lows clearly separated. After 11 years of making music, Pavement continues to surprise and provoke. The varied Terror Twilight layers soaring vocal melodies over Ringo Starr tempo changes, blues jams with the swing of the Groundhogs and early 70s classic rock tropes from Don McLean to the James Gang. By far their most solid and coherent album to date, Terror Twilight still contains the classic Pavement elements: A country, folksy roots-rock shamble foundation, cryptic lyrics and the occasional two-second blast of white noise.
"Terror Twilight" was conceived in Portland, Oregon, rehearsed in Lexington, Virginia, and put on tape June-Dec. 1998 in New York and London. No durations are printed on the release. All songs C 1999 Treble Kicker Music (BMI). CP 1999 Matador Records.
"Terror Twilight" is the fifth and final studio album by the influential American indie rock band Pavement, released in 1999. This CD edition captures the band's signature blend of lo-fi aesthetics, clever lyricism, and melodic experimentation that defined an era of alternative music. Produced by Nigel Godrich (noted for his work with Radiohead), "Terror Twilight" features standout tracks like "Spit on a Stranger," "Major Leagues," and "Carrot Rope." The album showcases Pavement's evolution towards more polished production while retaining their quirky charm. Pavement emerged from Stockton, California in the late 1980s and quickly became icons of indie rock with critically acclaimed albums such as "Slanted & Enchanted" and "Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain." Their innovative sound has influenced countless bands worldwide. This release comes from Matador Records?an esteemed independent label known for championing groundbreaking artists?and its partners Beggars Group/Indigo, both recognized for their commitment to quality music across genres.
