Wie der Titel schon vermuten lÃ¤sst, ist â??Castaways and Cutoutsâ?? eine Platte, die mit einer eklektischen Reihe unwahrscheinlicher Charaktere in verschiedenen ZustÃ¤nden des Verlassenseins und der Ausgelassenheit bevÃ¶lkert ist. WÃ¤hrend spanische Zigeuner, Gespenster von Kleinkindern und tÃ¼rkische Prostituierte keine gewÃ¶hnlichen Elemente der modernen Popmusik sind, finden diese Figuren reichlich Halt in den Liedern von Mr. Meloy, die durch die Ã¼ppige und orchestrale Instrumentierung der Band unterstÃ¼tzt werden. Die Platte wurde Ã¼ber einen Zeitraum von zwei Monaten in einem Lagerhaus in Portland aufgenommen und schwankt anmutig zwischen herzzerreiÃ?endem, geschickt arrangiertem Pop und rauflustigem Klagelied aus dem Stegreif. -

Drawing comparisons to Belle And Sebastian (but dirtier) and Neurtal Mile Hotel (but poppier) the group really rides under the banner of the famed Big Music movement of the mid-80s that birthed such legendary pop groups as Big Country, World Party and the WAterboys. This debut CD features a full-color 12-page booklet with lyrics and illustrations by Carson Ellis.
