 | Description: | (3-CD box set) Jack Purvis was the Dadaist of jazz, throwing music publisher's stock arrangements into gleeful chaos. He was the trickster of European myth, whose charm and fascinating wickedness trapped otherwise hard-headed businessmen into condoning and collaborating in his nefarious activities. The enigmatic trumpet playing shape-shifter blurred reality so that contradictory accounts would emerge from witnesses present at some of his legendary activities. The 74 tracks on this set were recorded in New York from 1928-35, and they feature Purvis with His Orchestra, and as a sideman with Smith Ballew, Hal Kemp, Ed Kirkeby, Rube Bloom, Tommy Dorsey, Adrian Rollini, Benny Goodman, Dick McDonough, Seger Ellis, Lee Morse, Eddie Lang and others.1-1, 1-2: New York, February 28, 1928
