 | | Description: | Newly expanded version of this classic early '90s 'shoegazer' album, from a band who never quite made the impact of those that preceded them, maybe because their music was uptempo by the standards of the genre. The album has now been boosted to a full 18 tracks by the addition of all the b-sides from their singles and EP, along with 'Die Die Die' which was originally only available on a free record that came with the album, and has never appeared on CD before. Producers include Robin Guthrie, Stephen Hague and Ralph Jezzard, guest vocals are from the divine Rachel Goswell (Slowdive, Mojave 3). Cherry Red. 2006.Original reissue which, due to faulty mastering, has tracks 1 to 9, 13, and 14 culled from low-bitrate MP3s. Some but not all include the EP version of "Something More" (album version should be 3:31 in length). [r=2422272] is a corrected version, which reportedly sold out in 2010, so that this first issue's mastering is again what's being manufactured for some unknown reason.
Also of note is Cherry Red's site said that both "Rain" (from "Sunburst") & "Die, Die, Die" (from the limited bonus 12" from the "Whirlpool" LP) were also to be included, but were scratched at the last minute, reportedly by the band due to space constraints.
Made in the E.U."Whirlpool" is the debut album by British shoegaze band Chapterhouse, originally released in 1991 and now available on CD from Cherry Red Records. This influential record captures the essence of early '90s alternative rock with lush guitar textures, dreamy vocals, and hypnotic rhythms that defined the shoegaze genre. Standout tracks like "Pearl," "Falling Down," and "Breather" showcase Chapterhouse's ability to blend ethereal soundscapes with infectious melodies. The remastered edition offers enhanced audio quality and bonus material for fans old and new.
Chapterhouse formed in Reading, England in 1987, quickly becoming a key player in the burgeoning shoegaze scene alongside bands like My Bloody Valentine and Ride. Their innovative approach to layering guitars earned them critical acclaim; their single "Pearl" became an indie classic. Despite disbanding after two albums, their influence endures among modern dream pop artists.
Cherry Red Records is a renowned independent label established in London in 1978. Known for its diverse catalog spanning punk, post-punk, indie pop, electronic music, and more, Cherry Red has played a pivotal role in reissuing classic albums as well as supporting emerging talent across genres. | | | No. of tracks: |
