Description:Blending a love of dancehall and rock-steady reggae rhythms with an aggressive punk ethos, Sublime amassed a nearly fanatical following across America, especially in the surf/skate communities. Their indie debut album is now considered a cult classic, spending nearly 70 weeks on Soundscan Alternative New Artist Albums Chart (more than half of that time in the Top 20). It hung out for 5 weeks on Billboard's Heatseeker chart and the edgy single, "Date Rape," was the #1 requested song for over 20 weeks in '95 on L.A.'s KROQ.
Tracked at Mambo, Long Beach. Mixed at Studio City, Universal City. Remastered at Bernie Grundman Mastering.
"40 Oz. To Freedom" is the groundbreaking debut album by Sublime, released in CD format by MCA. This iconic record blends punk rock, reggae, ska, and hip-hop influences into a unique sound that defined an era of alternative music in the 1990s. Featuring standout tracks like "Date Rape," "Smoke Two Joints," and the title track "40oz. to Freedom," this album showcases Sublime's raw energy and innovative songwriting. The band's ability to seamlessly fuse genres set them apart from their contemporaries and earned them a devoted following worldwide.
