"The Scarecrow is a tragic story of a lonesome creature, emotionally isolated from his environment and suffering from a distorted sensory perception. His feelings for the love of his life unrequited, he sets off on a journey exploring the left-hand path, striving for inner peace, ploughing his way to approval and eventually facing temptation at the inner depths of the human soul..." Recorded, Mixed and Mastered at Gatestudio, Wolfsburg & Vox-Klangstudio, Hamburg. Additional recordings at Madhat-Studio, Wolverhampton, UK & at Voice Trax West Recording Studio, Los Angeles, California. Info in the cd booklet refers to Madhat-Studio, Wolverhampton although the name changed to M2 studios in 2005
"The Scarecrow" is a captivating studio album by the German symphonic metal project Avantasia, released in CD format by Nuclear Blast. This ambitious concept album weaves together powerful melodies, epic orchestration, and an all-star cast of guest vocalists from the world of rock and metal. The record explores themes of isolation and longing through its intricate storytelling and dynamic musical arrangements. Avantasia, masterminded by Tobias Sammet (also known for his work with Edguy), has become renowned for blending elements of power metal, hard rock, and classical influences into grandiose "metal operas." Since their inception in 1999, Avantasia has achieved international acclaim with chart-topping albums such as "The Metal Opera," "Ghostlights," and "Moonglow." Nuclear Blast Records stands as one of the leading labels in heavy music worldwide, supporting innovative artists across genres like metalcore, death metal, thrash, and more since 1987.

Alexander S. - 31/Oct/2019 5 of 5 Stars!
The basis of the material is music with the influence of hard rock, as well as with catchy melodies. Sometimes the music resembles the last Edguy (2006) + Whitesnake, but with beautiful orchestrations and keys from Miro (Miro also contributed to the music of the albums Rhapsody, Kamelot) and unique memorable solos from guitar masters. Regarding vocals, everyone sang well, but not in the best manner. Indeed, a lot of Zammet, and he sings well here. But I don’t know why it happened, but other vocalists sing no better than him. This is not good, because each of them, as is known from their work outside Avantazia, is unique. For example, Jorn doesn’t have such a wide range and variation of voice parameters as on his own solo album “Worldchanger” or work in Ark, there is no power like in Beyond Twillight. Even to Masterplan (the group in which Jorn sang) does not reach. Jorn sings more hoarsely, not going not up to the very bottom, but still not bad with his unique timbre, and in the manner reminding Dio. Roy Han (Kamelot) sings in a more purely power manner, for which his voice is not very suitable. Better to listen to him in Camelot. Returning to Landa, I will say that Zammet sings here very similar to him. But the exception from the vocalists who were not full at all, perhaps, was Alice Cooper with her unique vocals. The song with Cooper recalls his work of the 21st century.
