Description:Reissue of [m601130] album from 1989. Issued in a transparent tray jewel case with a booklet containing credits and liner notes in English and German. First issued Larrikin/Jara Hill 1989. Peter Carolan appears courtesy of Wea Records and "Gondwanaland". Recorded at Electric Avenue, Sydney. [booklet liner notes in English] 'The music in this album is distinctively Australian having been inspired by Sirocco's eight years of international performance. In many ways it is a montage of original music that reflects the cultural richness of modern Australia complete with an almost irreverent characteristic so typical of the world's largest island continent. The recording is made up of four suites. "Desert" was inspired by the Northern Territory and uses a combination of didgeridoo and electric guitar to evoke the vastness swirling movement of the Australian desert. "City to City" combines both the middle eastern and western traditions to offer the brash images of the multicultural city. The oud and drum provide a basis for the changing moods of the city, while the sparkling glissandos of the harp-like Kanoon add a touch of exotic mystery. "The Mountain suite" opens with the pristine sound of the cheng and recorder, then develops its oriental inspiration as the music takes us further along the mountain path. "Port of Call" was inspired by the Australian Museum's Bicentennial "First Impressions" exhibition. Sirocco invites the listener to an epic voyage from the London Docks to the shores of the "Great South Land". Sirocco was formed in 1980 to present original and traditional music of contemporary Australia. Their music has taken them to places as far afield as the Highlands of Korea to the Louisiana Bayou and from the centre of Aboriginal Australia to the Great Wall of China.'
