Description:Young Swiss trombonist Samuel Blaser (who lives between New York and Berlin) is one of the next generation of jazz artists. Blaser leads a quartet with in-demand bassist Thomas Morgan, up-and-coming pianist Russ Lossing and legendary drummer, Paul Motian, confirming that he is an artist abounding with daring ideas and concepts. Taking the unusual step of blending Renaissance and Baroque period music with jazz improvisation, Blaser creates with Consort in Motion a new musical world, at once oddly familiar and yet also startlingly compelling. He fashions entertaining original arrangements that emphasize his versatile playing and deep commitment to the jazz aesthetic. Winner of the Benny Golson prize, Blaser has worked in various big bands, featuring the likes of Phil Woods, Clark Terry, Jimmy Heath and Buddy DeFranco.
Compositions or "reflections" on compositions by Claudio Monteverdi and other reneaissance Italian composers. Recorded and engineered on December 29, 2010 at Water Music, Hoboken, N.J. Mixed and mastered on January 5 and 6, 2011 at Bass Hit Recording, Manhattan, NY. Comes in a jewel case wrapped in an O-card. Includes an 8-page booklet with notes in English. Made in Italy.
