描述:Originally released in 1974, Hergest Ridge was the follow-up to 1973's groundbreaking debut, Tubular Bells. It gave Oldfield his first UK No.1 album, and was actually knocked off the UK top spot by Tubular Bells itself. It is another lengthy suite, reflecting the glory of the countryside Oldfield had secluded himself in following his early global success. Hergest Ridge is on the English-Welsh border near the town of Kington. A stunning new 2010 mix highlights the nuances of the work. Also found in research for the album was Oldfield's original demos, never before heard., Runningtime: 00:00:00, A&R: Benita Kimera, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Organ, Mandolin, Glockenspiel, Bells [Sleigh Bells], Timpani, Bells [Tubular Bells], Gong: Mike Oldfield, Arranged By: Mike Oldfield, Art Direction, Design: Phil Smee, Artwork [Original LP Sleeve]: Trevor Key, Design Concept [2010 Sleeve Concept]: Daryl Easlea, Design Concept [2010 Sleeve Concept]: Phil Smee, Mixed By [Stereo]: Mike Oldfield, Other [Glider]: Rupert Lloyd, Other [Numbers]: Emma Sutcliffe, Product Manager: Daryl Easlea, Remastered By [24-bit Digital Mastering]: Paschal Byrne, Research [Tape], Other [Artist Liason], Coordinator [Technical Co-ordination], Liner Notes: Mark Powell, Snare [Snare Drums]: Chili Charles, Supervised By [Hergest Ridge 2010 Project Directors]: Adam Barker (2), Supervised By [Hergest Ridge 2010 Project Directors]: Daryl Easlea, Supervised By [Hergest Ridge 2010 Project Directors]: Mike Oldfield, Written-By: Mike Oldfield, Written-By: Robert Lucas de Pearsall, Arranged By [Choir]: David Bedford, Choir: London Sinfonietta, Trumpet: Ted Hobart, Flute: Terry Oldfield, Percussion: William Murray, Vocals: Clodagh Simonds, Vocals: Sally Oldfield, Labelcode UNUK5326755.2 (532 675-5, 532 675-5), Phonographic Copyright (p) Mercury Records Ltd., Copyright (c) Mercury Records Ltd., Licensed From Mike Oldfield, Published By Stage Three Music Ltd., Published By Universal Music Publishing Ltd., Recorded At The Manor, Mixed At Air Studios, Remastered At The Audio Archiving Company, Designed At Waldo's Design & Dream Emporium, Pressed By Sony DADC

The second studio album by English musician and songwriter Mike Oldfield, released on 30 August 1974. The album was No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart for three consecutive weeks before it was displaced by Tubular Bells, marking one of the few times an artist has overtaken themselves on the chart in this manner.

well, who can expect a miracle - Mike to make a better record than the Tubular Bells! this one is not a miracle but it is a kind of expected attempt to do something to try to continue the successfull story. But I will give this one another chance to impress me.

Oldfield's second album is more pastoral than Tubular Bells. The music is beautiful, drifting, has a lot of flute and less guitar, until its immense 62 guitar multi-tracked climax. To me part 1 is the sound of the British countryside, every bit as evocative as Delius or Vaughan Williams (both of which Oldfield was listening to around this time). Its an album I play when I feel homesick. To newcomers to Oldfield I suggest you buy Tubular Bells first, then Ommadawn (his best album) and then this if you love the folk, minimalist and ambient elements in those 2 albums. Hergest Ridge is a hill on the border between Wales and England. It is beautiful and remote and Oldfield retreated there after the massive success of Tubular Bells. Hergest Ridge is therefore the most rooted in place of all his albums. Only Woodhenge on Platinum has a similar eerie sense of place.
