Description:
Portishead appeared unexpectedly for everyone. Yes, then in 1994 the stars of Massive Attack and Tricky were already lit up, but a truly cult trip-hop group (many are scared of this term, but in vain) were destined to become precisely these Bristol.
For 13 years - only 2 numbered studio albums and a concert with an orchestra. It would seem ridiculously small, right? But not for Portishead. These records had a tremendous impact on the thoughts of youth of the 90s and gave rise to crowds of fans, followers, imitators and various clones.
An unimaginable cocktail of styles, sound layers and an atmosphere of melancholy, even depression, drove everyone who knew how to listen crazy. On top of the deep, perfectly crafted sound, the vital, weaving amazing lace from cigarette smoke, the voice of the inimitable Beth Gibbons. Pain and despair were embodied in the verses of this woman, so that later, either with a cry or with a cry, break into our hearts and souls.
The insanely complex music unexpectedly brought commercial success to Bristol wizards.
You can count on the fingers of one hand the iconic discs of the 90s, after the release of which new styles were born, producing a kind of revolution in music. In my personal opinion, there are five such albums: Nirvana "Nevermind", Bjork "Debut", Radiohead "OK Computer", The Prodigy "The Fat Of The Land" and ... Portishead "Dummy".
