Description:2015 repress; originally released in 2011. John Holt was one of the finest and most versatile voices to come out of Jamaica, whether fronting The Paragons or as a solo artist. Born in Kingston, Holt was a child prodigy who began his career as a regular voice on the talent contests run by Vera Johns across Jamaica. He cut his first single, I Cried a Tear/Forever I'll Stay, in 1963, and sang many duets with various singers of the day, including Rum Bumper with Alton Ellis. The period from 1965 to 1970 was John Holt's paragon era, during which he also ran solo with such hits as Fancy Make Up, A Love I Can Feel, and Let's Build Our Dreams. CD includes three tracks not included on the LP version.
Tracks 15 and 16 are CD Bonus Tracks. Manufactured under Licence from E. Lee. Made in the U.K. Studios include: Channel 1, Harry J's, Randy's Studio 17. "500 Volts Of Dub" on CD brings together the timeless voice of John Holt with the deep, echo-laden aesthetics of classic dub. Rooted in Jamaica's fertile reggae tradition, this album focuses on stripped-down riddims, heavy basslines and spacious mixes that allow every fragment of Holt's melodies and harmonies to float in a sea of reverb and delay. The result is a hypnotic listening experience that works equally well on a sound system or through headphones, inviting you to sink into layers of rhythm and atmosphere. Whether you are a long-time reggae aficionado or a curious newcomer to dub, this release offers a warm, analog-sounding journey through one of Jamaica's most influential musical styles.

John Holt is regarded as one of reggae's most beloved singers, known both for his tenure with The Paragons and for his long solo career, during which he helped define the lovers rock and roots sound with his silky, emotional vocals. Across decades he scored numerous hits, became a mainstay of Jamaican music charts and gained a loyal international following for his unique blend of romantic ballads and conscious themes. His songs have been covered and versioned countless times in reggae and beyond, underscoring his status as a cornerstone of Caribbean music. Even when his work is reimagined in dub form, Holt's unmistakable tone and phrasing shine through.

The CD is released by Jamaican/Indigo, a label known for keeping the legacy of reggae, rocksteady and dub alive through carefully curated reissues and catalog titles. With a focus on authentic sound, respectful presentation and knowledgeable liner notes where available, Jamaican/Indigo offers collectors and new listeners a reliable gateway into classic Jamaican recordings. Their catalog often highlights important but sometimes overlooked albums, ensuring that seminal works like this dub-driven homage to John Holt remain accessible in high-quality editions for today's audiences.

For fans building a reggae collection, "500 Volts Of Dub" is an ideal companion to vocal albums: it reveals the skeletal power of the rhythms behind Holt's songs and illustrates how dub turned studio experimentation into an art form. The CD format makes the album easy to enjoy in full, with consistent sound and convenient access to standout tracks--perfect for both attentive listening sessions and background grooves that quietly charge the room with "500 volts" of authentic dub energy.
