Yuriy P. - 27/Jan/2022 If you read what they write about DEEP PURPLE, you may get the impression that the band began to play really worthwhile music with Gillan, and the first three albums do not represent anything interesting ... Indeed, in the shadow of the magnificent "In Rock", "Fireball " and "Machine Head" the first three albums are forgotten and underestimated. And very bad, because all three albums with Rod Evans and Nick Simper are very, very good. In any case, they are not much inferior to subsequent albums with Gillan. The group has already demonstrated the highest class from the first disc. As for the fundamental change in style since the 70s, then, perhaps, the group has only one album that is fundamentally different from the work of the 60s, this is, in fact, "In Rock". And the albums that followed mark a partial return to the 60s.
The group's first album contains only half of its material. There are already four cover versions, one of which - Joe South's "Hush" - was the main hit of the group at that time (it was she who came out as the group's first single). Perhaps the most unusual and interesting of the foreign material is the Beatles' "Help". The thing was so modified that, in my opinion, it was quite possible to attribute its own authorship. It turned out great!
The material on the album is represented by two songs and two instrumentals. What impresses me the most is the beautiful lyrical song “One More Rainy Day”. The music on the album (and on the next two) is reminiscent of a mixture of old Beatles-type rock, with that DEEP PURPLE that everyone knows from the 70s. The album is just great, though not perfect.
| | Evripidis T. - 06/Jun/2018 This is one of the first attempts of Deep Purple with a more psychedelic 60's sound and without the great voice of Gillan but it is a very nice try!
| | Volodymyr Z. - 27/Apr/2015 Very nice album from DEEP PURPLE! But it is only beginning!
| | OverDefined - 08/Jun/2010 Life Long Tragedy unequivocally peaked with their 2008 LP Runaways before unceremoniously breaking up after one final U.S. tour. That record was a pai...
| | Vitali T. - 27/Mar/2016 My favorite period of creativity of this group. First album. What is similar to The Beatles. Great vocals of Rod Evans. It is a pity that with his participation, only three of the album was recorded.
| | Philip - 29/Nov/2010 Deep Purple mit schwarzhaarigen Pilz-Frisuren inmitten eines bunt gekleideten, tanzenden Publikums Das gab es! Der Frontmann hieß damals nicht Ian Gi...
