Crime of the Century is the third studio album by the English rock band Supertramp, released in September 1974 . The album has received critical acclaim, including its inclusion in Rolling Stone's "50 Greatest Prog Rock Albums of All Time". I recommend.

Supertramp came into their own on their third album, 1974's Crime of the Century, as their lineup gelled but, more importantly, so did their sound. The group still betrayed a heavy Pink Floyd influence, particularly in its expansive art rock arrangements graced by saxophones. My favorite song is Crime of the century.

Despite the "hit" of the two songs, for example, I can not distinguish good and bad things here. The group found a very fine line between melody and arrangements, turning essentially the simplest songs into very powerful hits. In general, none of the participants in Supertramp can be called a virtuoso in the full sense. However, they do not take it. They are great melodists and arrangers. Dozens of little things that they saturate the musical material, so color the melody that it begins to play a wide variety of colors, faces, etc. They know how to squeeze out the maximum of melody from a seemingly faded moment. There are orchestrations, but these are not so bright as to “clog” the rest of the music. “Beatle's” “simple complexity” or “complex simplicity” has a place to be. Crime of the Century is completely devoid of monotony. The dynamics here are intertwined with slow moments. Epic composition on the face. Everything was sung for several voices, for several characters (Rudy, Jimmy Cream, Dreamer). For me, for example, the most striking example of the musical Supertramp is Asylum with orchestration. A very tragic thing. In general, on this album, the group combined tragedy with humor. Very few musicians have managed to do this. The theme of the musical is essentially the main one in this album. Almost every song tells about actors, stunts about people behind masks. In the final, the masks break down ... In my opinion, a great album. One of the best in British rock.

One of the most under appreciated albums in rock. The overall atmosphere of this excellent concept album is as beautiful as can be. Every song is a mini-musical.
