 | Description: | Amsterdam 1944. Der zwölfjährige Jeroen (Maaerten Smit) wächst zwischen deutscher Besatzung und seiner überforderten Mutter auf. Das Leben in der Stadt ist gefährlich und das Essen knapp. Wie viele Kinder wird er aufs Land verfrachtet, wo Bauernfamilien gar nicht wissen, was Essensmarken sind und Ration immer heißt, dass man satt wird. Der junge Jeroen wächst inmitten einer liebevollen Fischerfamilie und der zauberhaften Idylle des holländischen Nordens auf. Langsam gedeihen erste sexuelle Gefühle als auch schon das Kriegsende naht und die kanadischen Befreier in das Dorf einziehen. Für Jeroen reduzieren sich die neuen Gesichter bald nur auf das des Soldaten Walt (Andrew Kelley). Eine liebevolle Beziehung entsteht, die von allen geduldet wird. Doch so plötzlich wie die Befreier kamen sind sie auch wieder verschwunden und Jeroen bleibt nur eine Sonnenbrille und ein Photo seines Geliebten, welches versehentlich beim Waschen vernichtet wird. Erst in den 80er Jahren holt der erwachsene Jeroen dieses Gesicht in sein Bewusstsein zurück.
