Dedicated to legendary guitarist and co-founder CRISS OLIVA: Savatageâ??s 1994 studio album
â??Handful Of Rainâ? was the first album after Criss Olivaâ??s death. â??None of us knew at that time if what we were doing was right, or if we should have just stoppedâ?, says Jon Oliva. â??We were offered four times the amount of money to do the live tribute than we got to do â??Handful of Rainâ??, but we wanted to do â??Alone You Breatheâ??. Paul and I needed to release that song, for Crissâ?? sake. As weird as it sounds, that was the most important thing to us.â? The album also features the song â??Chanceâ? which was the first Savatage song to contain the usage of counterpoint vocals, a style which they continued to use on following albums.
Almost three decades after its original release, â??Handful Of Rainâ? is becoming available again on finest vinyl. Reissued as a 180g Black LP Gatefold Edition, along with a Limited Collectorâ??s Edition on Transparent Blue Vinyl. Both editions are mastered for vinyl and reissued with the original cover design and specially enhanced artwork, including a 12-pages LP booklet with extensive liner notes by Clay Marshall. Exclusive to the Limited LP Collectorâ??s Edition is a deluxe LP slipmat with the album cover art. -

The eighth studio album by American heavy metal band Savatage, released in 1994. Alex Henderson of AllMusic considered Handful of Rain an excellent album "that is melodic, ambitious, often operatic and consistently absorbing" and the band "impressively consistent". I recommend.

It was the band's second album with Zak Stevens on lead vocals and former lead singer Jon Olivia taking a back seat in a new slot covering the roles of composer, piano/keys and live backing vocals. Additionally, he performed bass and drums on this album as the band were in turmoil following founding member (and brother to Jon) Criss Olivia's untimely death.

This is some different sound and composed. I think alex skolnick's playing well went into this album.

A really great album from one of my favorite bands. After the tragic death of Kriss Oliva, the group was on the verge of collapse. But brother John decided to continue, and Alex Skolnik, who had "freed" from Testament, also helped. In the end, it’s just a wonderful job, about the style of Edge Of Thorns (93) The first thing, though, falls somewhat out of the general list, but it is also magnificent. This is followed by the standard Savatage, diluted in places with Skolnik's blues chips. Thing Chance - just a super hit for all time, around her, perhaps, the entire album is built. From this album, in my opinion, Savatage began to practice the chip of overlapping several vocal parts, one on top of the other (Chance), a very successful experiment. Well what else can I say, this album must be listened to, at least. By the way, it is interesting that the drum parts here are performed by John Oliva himself.

One of the difference faces of Savatage. More slow, sad(first album after Criss Oliva death) but at the same time a masterpiece
