Savatageâ??s last studio album featuring Jon Oliva back on lead vocals.
The wonderful journey in the SAVATAGE time machine finds its completion with the LP re-release of "Poets and Madmen". This album is a blend of the band's guitar-heavy past and their more theatrical later works, with Jon's charismatic vocals bridging the gap, offering a comforting dose of the familiar as the band continues to break new ground. â??Poets and Madmenâ? also marks the end of the band's remarkable partnership with Paul O'Neill, which resulted in eight albums in 14 years that continue to excite fans and critics decades later.
Available as Black 180g Double Vinyl Gatefold Edition and Strictly Limited Collectorâ??s Edition on â??Glow In The Darkâ? Vinyl. Both editions are mastered for vinyl, reissued with the original cover design and specially enhanced artwork, including a 16-pages LP booklet. Exclusive to the Limited Collectorâ??s Edition is a 7â? Splatter Single with the song â??Awaken (Extended Version)â?. -
Originally released in 2001, "Poets & Madmen" is the 4th concept album of Savatage. It was highlighted by Jon Oliva's return as lead vocalist, replacing Zak Stevens, who left the band citing family reasons.

Everything is in the vein of the late Savatage, with the exception that the vocals have become more uniform. Especially annoying long repetition of the same words in some songs. Why do such things, I generally can not understand. Take, say, Iron Maiden. The guys will write a good song with a good chorus, but they will sing the chorus so many times that he is just tired. And who does not get bored a hundred times repeated line? The same is true of Poets and Madmen, not on the scale of Iron Maiden, but also unpleasant.
But very pleased with the guitar, which several times as if breaks off the chain and begins to very dynamically solo the solo. The nature of the music evokes an epic mood. The compositions are very wide, and their duration seems much longer than it actually is. The sound is moderately heavy, but not thrash and not a speed metal (an analogue of a group is generally difficult to find). In general, the album is good. Although with minor errors. Purchase and listen worth.
