Eugene S. - 25/Sep/2024 The first live album by the English progressive rock band Yes, released as a triple album in May 1973. The album was a commercial success for the band, reaching number 7 on the UK Albums Chart and number 12 on the US Billboard 200. In 1998, the album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for selling over one million copies in the United States.
| | Igor G. - 19/Dec/2017 Released as a triple-LP album in May 1973 on Atlantic Records, “Yessongs” is the first live album by YES. It was compiled by the band from the live recordings made between February and December 1972. Except of two tracks (“Opening” and Rick Wakeman's keyboard solo “Excerpts from The Six Wives Of Henry VIII”), it presents the tracks from “The Yes Album” (1970), “Fragile” (1971), and “Close to the Edge” (1972). The materials were edited and re-mixed by Eddie Offord. Two tracks feature original drummer Bill Bruford while the remaining tracks feature Alan White. From the point of the music performance and the band’s ability to re-create on stage their often densely layered and intricate sound, “Yessongs” is a brilliant album. However, from the point of sound quality, it’s generally poorer than the studio originals. The sound is generally muddy with no real fidelity to speak of. Anyway, it’s definitely interesting and worth buying document of early 70’s era Sympho-Prog Rock.
