Ironbound is one of my favourite thrash albums of all time not just of the new thrash age. Although I was looking forward to its follow up, the next album rarely matches such a masterpiece. Although 'The Electric Age' is not on a par with 'Ironbound' it comes very close.

It seemed that already after the release of the last release, all possible praises were sung to the Overkill group. Indeed, from album to album, Overkill keep the brand of being the unchanging bearers of the traditions of American classic thrash metal. One can dismissively think: what could be simpler - periodically releasing the next "carbon monoxide trash that takes away the tower"? However, Newton said that genius is the concentration of thought in a certain direction. And this means that if a group finds something that can still surprise in what is well known to everyone, then it is a genius. Without a doubt, Overkill proved it with the release of The Electric Age in 2012. Where others give up, abandon their developments, embark on dubious experiments, geniuses continue to dig and dig to the end. This will probably continue to the end in the most literal sense ... that is, until the end of life. What is the secret of success this time? After all, looking back at the albums that were released before “The Electric Age”, we can say that Overkill tried everything possible within the style. Nevertheless, the current full-length album turned out to be truly the quintessence of heavy music of the eighties of the last century. For a long time, the label “old school thrash metal” has rightly been attached to the name Overkill, which most often denotes the extreme thrash sound of the early eighties. However, this time the label does not quite match the peer-reviewed material. "The Electric Age" has absorbed all the best that could be heard not only on the thrash albums of the early eighties, but also in the releases released in the late eighties, which differ from most of the earlier creations by pronounced melody. Besides, the material of the release is full of heavy metal sound.
