Yuriy P. - 04/Feb/2022 After the release of "Hot Space" Queen still decided not to flirt with disco anymore and returned to hard rock, albeit with an admixture of funk and disco. In parallel, the group began to actively use synthesizers, although earlier its members were proud of the fact that they achieve synthesizer sound even without these miracles of technology. Once again, we have a variety of styles - rock and roll hit with a satirical touch "Radio Ga Ga", incendiary hard rock "Tear It Up", an impressive ballad "It's a Hard Life" (beginning with an excerpt from Leoncavallo's Pagliacci), rockabilly "Man on the Prowl" (Elvis Presley, and only!), entertaining with its fantastical themes and sound effects such as the machine voice "Machines (Back to Humans)" (describes our machine-made future - and note that by the time this song was written the film "Terminator" has not yet been released), a disco hit with a catchy guitar solo "I Want to Break Free" (in some US states, the video for this song, where the band members were dressed in women's clothes, was banned from showing, but later it was paved the way for all other performers who decided to boldly declare their homosexuality), uninteresting in its similarity with everything else on this disc "Keep Passing the Open Windows", percussive and energetic "Hammer to Fall" with a choir in the best traditions and just great The finale of the album in the form of the philosophical “Is This the World We Created…?” with soulful and sad acoustic guitar playing. Despite the fact that this creation cannot be called a completely successful return to the bosom of rock, it once became the group's best-selling album, second only to a greatest hits collection.
| | Ivica S. - 17/Jan/2021 What many people don't know is that Freddie mercury was British schooled and had solid art and music training. this reminds me a lot of david bowie who was also British art school trained. it is no surprise then that God brought the two of them together on one of my favorite songs- "Under pressure." For this album THE WORKS, from me: 5 stars
