Description:Der mächtige Sankt Lorenz Strom bildet seit Jahrhunderten die Lebensader Kanadas. Auf ihm segelte 1535 der französische Entdecker Jacques Cartier hoch bis zur Stelle des heutigen Montréal und reklamierte das Land als französische Kolonie. 1608 gründete sein Nachfolger Samuel de Champlain die Stadt Québec, die zur Hauptstadt der Kolonie ernannt wurde. Kanada ist nach Russland das zweitgrößte Land der Erde, und Québec - mit mehr als 1,5 Millionen Quadratkilometern - die größte seiner Provinzen. Fast 5 Mal so groß wie Deutschland beherbergt sie jedoch lediglich 7,6 Millionen Einwohner, von denen 90% im fruchtbaren Tiefland am St. Lorenz Strom leben. Nur wenige Straßen führen von hier nach Norden, und diese verlieren sich irgendwann in der Wildnis. Somit bleibt viel Platz für die unberührte Natur und die reichhaltige Tierwelt dieses Landes.
