Weihnachten steht vor der Tür - doch von Besinnlichkeit fehlt im Leben der Mittzwanzigerin Holly jede Spur: Sie muss sich um ihren zehnjährigen Neffen Gabe kümmern. Ein kleiner Lichtblick ist da nur die Begegnung mit dem alleinstehenden Kaufhauserben Jake Finley. Auch für ihn verläuft die Weihnachtszeit bisher wenig erfreulich. Da er nur traditionelles Spielzeug verkaufen will, bleiben die Kunden weg - alle wollen in diesem Jahr nur einen sprechenden Roboter haben. Dann taucht eine skurrile neue Mitarbeiterin auf: Mrs. Miracle. Niemand weiß, wer die ältere Dame überhaupt eingestellt hat - doch einmal da, gewinnt sie schnell die Herzen ihrer Mitmenschen.
