Description:Short Stories For Pauline by Durutti Column, released 25 September 2012. This version of Short Stories For Pauline comes as a 2xCD. - LEGENDARY 'LOST' 4TH ALBUM W/BONUS CD
LTM is pleased to announce a CD edition of Short Stories for Pauline, the legendary 'lost' fourth album by cult Manchester group The Durutti Column, recently issued as a limited edition vinyl album on the Factory Benelux imprint. Originally recorded by Vini Reilly in Brussels for Factory Benelux in 1983, the 14 track album features several exquisite pieces including College, a Room in Southport and (most notably) Duet. Recorded with Tuxedo moon viola player Blaine L. Reininger, this poignant instrumental proved - ironically - to be the downfall of the album, after Factory director (and Durutti manager) Tony Wilson insisted that Duet form the basis of an entire neo-classical album. As a result, Duet became Without Mercy in 1984, and Short Stories for Pauline was shelved. Although individual tracks from Short Stories for Pauline have appeared on several compilations, notably highbrow Crépuscule collection Hommage à Marguerite Duras, this is the first time the original album has appeared in it's entirety. The 2012 remastered edition is a must for Vini Reilly and Factory collectors alike, and a priceless addition to the Durutti canon. The CD edition comes with a bonus disc, comprising 10 tracks recorded live in Brussels on 13 August 1981 together with a Vini Reilly radio interview.
2012 edition ©M24J / LTM Made in EU ? + © 1983; 2012 the durutti column (Label Disc 1) ? + © 1981; 2007 the durutti column (Label Disc 2) Disc 1 was recorded at Daylight Studio, Brussels. Disc 2 was recorded at Place De La Monnaie, Muntplein, Bruxelles [Mallemunt Festival] and previously released as [r1335773].
"Short Stories For Pauline/Live In Bruxelles" is a captivating CD release by The Durutti Column, presented by Factory Benelux. This special edition combines the long-lost studio album "Short Stories For Pauline," recorded in 1983 but unreleased for decades, with an evocative live performance from Brussels. The collection showcases Vini Reilly's signature guitar work and atmospheric soundscapes that have defined The Durutti Column?s unique place within post-punk and ambient music. Listeners are treated to both rare studio gems and the raw energy of a live show, making this CD essential for fans and collectors alike. The Durutti Column, led by virtuoso guitarist Vini Reilly, emerged from Manchester?s vibrant post-punk scene in the late 1970s. Known for their ethereal instrumentals blending elements of jazz, classical, and experimental rock, they became one of Factory Records? most distinctive acts. Over their career spanning more than four decades, The Durutti Column has released numerous critically acclaimed albums such as "LC," "The Return of the Durutti Column," and "Without Mercy." Their innovative approach continues to influence generations of musicians worldwide. Factory Benelux is renowned for its dedication to preserving seminal works from influential artists associated with Factory Records and beyond.
