Description:Smart Bar Chicago 1985 by Sonic Youth, released 8 November 2012, includes the following tracks: "Intro / Brave Men Run (In My Family)", "Ghost Bitch", "Kat 'n' Hat", "Kill Yr Idols" and more. This version of Smart Bar Chicago 1985 comes as a 1xCD. -
In the fall of 1985, Sonic Youth were touring the States following the release of their BAD MOON RISING LP. This show at Chicagos Smart Bar was recorded on 4-track cassette and consists of live versions of most of the songs from that album, early performances of "Secret Girl" and "Expressway to Yr Skull" (later to be released on EVOL) and a rare, never-before-released live rendition of "Kat n Hat." Mixed and mastered by the band from the original tape source, this single-CD edition includes liner notes by Gerard Cosloy and Sonic Youth engineer Aaron Mullan, plus unpublished photos by Pat Blashill and Steven Koress.
Almost complete concert recorded live at the Smart Bar, Chicago, August 11, 1985. The studio track "Into The Groove" by Madonna, originally played for two minutes before "I Love Her All The Time", and a false start to "Kill Yr Idols" are missing. Said to be the earliest known multitrack live recording of the band as per liner notes, the first two minutes of "Hallowe'en" are taken from an audience recording taped by the famous Chicago tapehead Aadam Jacobs. An incomplete version of the multitrack recording was previously released in 1991 on the Anarchy On St. Mary?s Place unofficial CD release. However this version includes the "Into The Groove" segment and the false start to "Kill Yr Idols" missing from the official release. Comes in cardboard gatefold sleeve.
