I continue to be amazed at both the quality and the quantity of songs that Clapton wrote. This guy penned a ton of wonderful songs over the years, many of which were turned into hits by other singers. Brilliant remaster - Brilliant sound - Highly recommended

After the breakup of Cream, Eric Clapton took part in several musical projects, participated in his own short-lived band Blind Faith, including played in several concerts with the duo Delaney and Bonnie. In the spring of 1970, Clapton learned that the accompanying musicians left the Duo Delaney and Bonnie: bassist Carl Radle, drummer Jim Gordon, and keyboardist Bobby Whitlock. Taking the opportunity, Clapton gathered a new group called Derek and the Dominos. In December 1970, this group released their only studio album, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, which featured musicians who subsequently took 2nd and 4th place on the Rolling Stone magazine's list of 100 greatest guitarists of all time. The album received mixed reviews from critics, but the album sold quite successfully and reached 16th position on the Billboard 200, although it did not hit the UK charts. In 2003, VH1 placed Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs at number 89 on the list of greatest albums of all time. In the same year, Rolling Stone magazine placed the album in 115th place out of the 500 greatest albums of all time. The reason for writing the title song “Layla” was Eric Clapton’s unrequited love for Patty Boyd, the wife of his friend George Harrison. The name of the song was inspired by the eastern legend “Leila and Majnun”, sung by the classic of Persian poetry, the Azerbaijani poet from Ganja Nizami Ganjavi. Leila was forced to marry, and her beloved Case left his tribe in the desert and lived alone, composing songs in honor of Leila. Leila moved with her husband to Iraq, where she soon became ill from Casey's longing and died. A few years later, Case was found dead. In his autobiography, Clapton writes that he learned about this legend from his friend Ian Dallas. Many other compositions of this album are associated with Patti Boyd, for example, opening the album “I Looked Away” and “Bell Bottom Blues”. According to Clapton’s recollections, Boyd once asked her to bring her bell-bottoms denim pants from a trip to the USA (this style was fashionable in the UK at that time), which gave the song its name.
