2010 album from one of the most respected and influential German Heavy Metal bands in the world. Gamma Ray is fronted by lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Kai Hansen (founding member of Helloween). It would be a capital mistake not to acknowledge the importance of the remaining band members: Dirk Schlächter on bass, Henjo Richter who provides great guitar solos and evocative keyboard parts and Dan Zimmermann, a real thunder on drums. To the Metal was recorded and produced in Hamburg, Germany - the band's home-town. Gamma Ray approached the songwriting and production on the new record is with a fresh approach and an energy that you would normally find in bands releasing their first records. To the Metal is their 10th studio album in 21 years of world-wide success and a real diamond in their Metal history.
The tenth full-length studio album by Gamma Ray. It was released on 29 January 2010. The critical reception to this album has been mostly positive, with some critics praising the musicianship and the drumming in particular. I recommend.

I waited for this album with some caution. Yes, Hansen doesn’t crap twice, but a blunder happens to the old woman, and the previous one - "Land of the Free II" - was simply terrible in its greyness. The more pleasant to listen to "To the Metal".
Of course, nothing so special and fresh, some revelations are not here, but ... When did we expect companions from Kai? And it turned out beautiful! Although with drops, waves - there are songs, without which it was quite possible to do, without which the album would only sparkle more brightly.
There is clearly heard the favorite children's music of Hansen - Uriah Heep - and the music of his youth - Judas Priest. Kind of, it's not even “To Metal”, but “To Rock”, a real “Tribute to the Past”. What is absorbed almost from mother's milk has finally been completely rethought, thought over, felt and processed ... In an excellent, slightly nu-metal manner. Yes, there are much more similarities with "Majestic" than with "LOTF II" or classics like "Somewhere out in Space", and this is nice - Hansen did not hang in the 80s, it’s not at a convenient and familiar place.
I was waiting for thunder riffs and majestic choruses - Gamma Ray has them! I was waiting for the music, forcing me to wave my fists, scream at the top of my lungs, and which you twist again and again - Gamma Ray has it! I wanted a simple, sincere rock, without unnecessary frills and sentiments - "To the Metal" is as simple as its name. And as stylish.

Admittedly, I approached To the Metal with some apprehension. Although Gamma Ray has always rebounded from weaker albums (from Insanity and Genius to ...
