Eine Herausforderung die Hortense nur zu gerne annimmt. Dank ihrer forschen und unkonventionellen Art schafft sie es schon bald sich in der eingeschworenen Männerdomäne des Palasts zu behaupten. Ihre authentische und bodenständige Küche verzückt das französische Staatsoberhaupt und versetzt ihn zurück in längst vergessene Kindertage. Immer öfter schleicht sich der Präsident auch nachts in ihre Küche, um über erlesene Rotweine und feinste Trüffel zu sinnieren. Doch die Gunst des Präsidenten bringt Hortense manche Neider ein und ihr unorthodoxer Stil passt sich Etikette und Bürokratie nur schwer an.
