Digitally re-mastered and expanded edition of this 1982 debut album by Belgian new wave group the Names. Between 1979 and 1982 the Names recorded a string of excellent records for Factory, Factory Benelux and Les Disques du Crépuscule, all helmed by legendary producer Martin Hannett. Recorded at Strawberry Studios in Manchester, Swimming has come to be regarded as a European cold wave classic, combining strong songwriting from Michel Sordinia and poised, tasteful delivery by guitarist Marc Deprez and keyboards player Christophe Den Tandt."Swimming" is the debut LP by The Names, originally released in 1982 and now reissued by Factory Benelux/Indigo. This post-punk masterpiece captures the melancholic yet melodic sound that defined an era, blending atmospheric guitars with introspective lyrics and haunting vocals. The album features standout tracks such as "Calcutta," "Nightshift," and "Life By the Sea," which showcase the band's ability to create emotional depth within a minimalist framework. The Names, hailing from Belgium, were closely associated with Joy Division and producer Martin Hannett, whose signature production style is evident throughout this record. Though not achieving mainstream fame at their inception, The Names have since been recognized as influential pioneers of European post-punk. Factory Benelux/Indigo is renowned for its dedication to preserving seminal works from alternative music history, offering high-quality reissues that appeal to both collectors and new listeners alike. |
