Description:Mastered from the original master tapes for audiophile sound: Mobile Fidelity Hybrid SACD of Monkâ??s Dream features wide-bandwidth responsiveness, stunning clarity, and reach-out-and-touch-It presence ¡ Thelonious Monkâ??s Columbia records debut bursts with blues, stride, gospel, and swing: 1963 set conveys a joyous, exhilarating freedom that encourages repeat listening. The historical import, musical genius, and timeless artistry of Monkâ??s Dream can be best appreciated by first placing the record in the context of its era. In short, Thelonious Monkâ??s joyful Columbia Records debut triggered a domino effect of mainstream attention, best-selling success, and unstinting respect that led him to become one of only six jazz musicians to ever grace the cover of Timeâ?? then Americaâ??s most widely read weekly magazine. Couple the extraordinary feat with the fact the British Invasion and Beatlemania were already in full swing, and the cultural significanceâ??not to mention its place in the jazz canonâ??of Monkâ??s Dream skyrockets to near-unthinkable heights. Mastered from the original master tapes Mobile Fidelityâ??s numberededition hybrid SACD pays tribute to the 1963 albumâ??s merit and enhances the music for generations to come. Greatly improving on every other version extant, this audiophilegrade edition strips away any lingering audio limitations to provide a clear, transparent, and up-close view of a work that inspired DownBeat to award it a five-star review in which critic Pete Welding correctly proclaimed it â??a stunning reaffirmation of [Monkâ??s] powers as a performer and composer.â? Such potency reveals itself as all the more obvious on a collectorâ??s disc that affords full-range reproduction of the multi-layered complexities, challenging tonalities, and nontraditional rhythms that encourage constant exploration. Forever encouraging repeat listening, Monkâ??s Dream buzzes with the energy of a city celebrating its internal commotion and dancing to the influences that made its current modernism possible. - INCL. 6 BONUS TRACKS
Digitally re-mastered and expanded edition of the Jazz icon's best-selling album. This release contains the complete original LP Monk's Dream, which marks Thelonious Monk's first LP for Columbia, and which became his best-selling album ever. It features the pianist/composer performing a combination of his own tunes and his favorite standards, which he made his own. He is backed here by his classic quartet featuring Charlie Rouse on tenor sax, John Ore on bass, and Frankie Dunlop on drums. As a bonus, we have added a program consisting of his first studio versions of most of the tunes from the album, some of them dating from a decade earlier, plus a 1961 live solo piano version of 'Body and Soul', a song he first recorded in the studio on Monk's Dream.
