This version of Ermessenda comes as a 1xCD. - Music composed by Arnau Bataller
Ermessenda of Carcassonne reigned in X and XI centuries in Barcelona. Arnau Bataller had writing a beautiful melodic score with high expressive power. The composer comments: "The music of Ermessenda, with certain sounds archaic, not intended to be historical. It has a conception completely present. I opted for a string orchestra, not very big, to have a more intimate sound a bit so you can integrate with an image that avoids grandstanding. I use mutes on the strings, to have a more intimate sound, to integrate well with the images, who avoid the grandiloquence. It was decided to "decompensate" intentionally orchestra with a greater presence than usual for Cellos and Basses. The percussion, choir and austerity in writing just given the finishing touches sound of a music whose main function is to show the fragility of a woman too powerful for its time.
