Das legendäre Theaterstück von Frank Wedekind in der Inszenierung von Peter Zadek mit Susanne Lothar, Ulrich Tukur, Heinz Schubert u.v.a. - in 5 Akten erstmals auf DVD.

Lulu die Schlange, das süße Raubtier, die Urgestalt des Weibes, die gefährliche Kindfrau. In Peter Zadeks Inszenierung von 1988 am Hamburger Schauspielhaus - seine letzte und erfolgreichste Inszenierung in der Hansestadt - sieht man eine Lulu, die die Sprache des Körpers ungezwungen und unablässig einsetzt. Wedekinds weltberühmtes Erotikdrama zeigt den gesellschaftlichen Aufstieg und Fall des faszinierenden, triebhaften Straßenmädchens Lulu. Sie wird vom reichen Zeitungsverleger Dr. Schöning von der Straße geholt und macht sich nach und nach ihre Opfer hörig. In Paris führt sie ein hochstaplerisches Leben, ehe sie in London als verarmtes Straßenmädchen ihr Ende in den Fängen Jack the Rippers findet.

Nach erfolgreichen Gastspielen in Wien und Paris hat der WDR diese außergewöhnliche Fassung 1991 bei den Ruhrfestspielen Recklinghausen aufgezeichnet und im gleichen Jahr ausgestrahlt. Das DVD-Cover ziert eine Illustration des Künstlers Gottfried Helnwein, die als umstrittenes Plakat-Motiv zur Premiere des Stücks diente und beinahe zensiert wurde.Das DVD-Booklet enthält Hintergrundinformationen und Premieren-Fotos der mit Zadek befreundeten Fotografin Roswitha Hecke.
