 | | Description: | Regarded today as a hallmark in the folk / viking black metal scene, the influence of WINDIRâ??s sophomore record Arntor (1999) is not to be underestimated and can be easily compared to that of BATHORY. The roots that put down with the debut Sóknadalr, were strengthened with this album. Combining icy guitar riffs and building atmosphere with epic melodies, Arntor is the album that introduced the band to an international audience and that is widely recognized as an inspiration for many folk / pagan metal bands today. - This 1st CD press has the best quality artwork for the booklet and back insert, all reissues are of much lower quality.
All music and lyrics made between 96-98.
Recorded at Grieghallen Studios during Aug-Nov 1998.
Lead guitars on tracks 4 and 6 and synthesizers on track 7 were recorded at Sogndal Lydstudio A/S.
"Arntor" was released in spring/summer in Norway, and autumn 1999 in the rest of the world.
"Svatasmeden og Lundamyrstrollet" is the story of an old tale from Sogndal, Valfar's hometown, about a blacksmith and the Lundamyrs, a Troll's home.
The song "Arntor, Ein Windir" is based upon an old folk song.
