The second Tiamat album can be safely attributed to pure Doom-metal, the musicians stopped all flirting with Death - rare increases in the pace of the game are more likely exceptions that confirm the rule. I think this album was very unlucky: the modern listener would rather pay attention to the masterpiece “Clouds” than its more complex and slightly less interesting predecessor. Against the backdrop of "Clouds," the album may indeed seem damp and boring, but frankly, only a few units in the history of the genre can withstand competition with "Clouds". Meanwhile, already at "The Astral Sleep" we hear that magnificent guitar game and vocals that became the hallmark of Tiamat after "Clouds". The songs of the group found their soul on this album, which was so unusual for Death's "Sumerian Cry". But for Doom-metal this is the most important thing - so that it takes for the soul ...

This is the second album from Tiamat after they changed name from Treblinka cause of the controversial use of it. Here we begin to glimpse some melodic influences in the sound that will become a trademark from the next album Clouds, although there's been still swedish death metal. Good reissue from Century Media who contains bonus tracks from the early '90 in a more raw way.
