The Swedish symphonic rock group Tribute made four records during the eighties. This is their second album, originally recorded and released in 1986. This is the first album where the band is joined by French drummer Pierre Moerlen (ex Gong/Mike Oldfield). Breaking Barriers is more in the direction of jazz fusion, even though the more poetic quality of the previous album is still to be heard.
