While recording his sophomore album FOMO at his beach cottage in New Zealand in late 2010, Liam Finn found himself alone, missing friends, family and parties. His reliance on popular social networking sites and text messages to connect with loved ones inspired the tone and title of the record: The actions we take for Fear of Missing Out. Seeking to record songs that would instantly grab the listener, Finn and co-producer Burke Reid looked for sonic triggers that wouldn't just set a spark, but create an expansive listening experience that demonstrates a manic, off-the-cuff exuberance. Album standouts such as "Neurotic World," "Cold Feet," "The Struggle" and "Jump Your Bones" marry '60s melodics with spiraling keyboards and distorted guitars and vocals.
