| | Description: | Gong wurde 1967 gegründet, nachdem Daevid Allen die Band Soft Machine verlassen hatte. Aufgrund einer Visakomplikation wurde ihm die Einreise nach Gro�britannien verweigert und er zog nach Frankreich, wo er und Gilli Smyth die erste Inkarnation von Gong gründeten. Sie spielten 1971 beim zweiten Glastonbury Festival und waren 1972 einer der ersten Acts, die bei Virgin Records unterschrieben haben.
Nachdem Allen den Gro�teil der achtziger Jahre in seiner Heimat Australien verbracht hatte, kehrte er mit einem neuen Projekt nach Gro�britannien zurück, "The Invisible Opera Company of Tibet", das die Bühne für verschiedene Gong-Treffen und Off-Shoots bereitete. 1994 feierte Gong sein 25-jähriges Bestehen mit einem gro�en Festival im Forum in London. Diese klassische Gong-Besetzung, die seit 1977 nicht mehr zusammengespielt hatte, bestand aus Allen, Tim Blake, Mike Howlett, Didier Malherbe, Pip Pyle, Steffi Sharpstrings, Gilli Smyth und Shyamal Maitra. - ...PARTY / RECORDED OCTOBER 1994Gong was formed in 1967 after Daevid Allen left Soft Machine, and due to a Visa complication was denied entry to the UK and moved to France where he and Gilli Smyth established the first incarnation of Gong. They played at the second Glastonbury festival in 1971, and in 1972 they were one of the first acts to sign to Virgin Records. After spending most of the eighties in his native Australia, Allen returned to the UK with a new project, 'The Invisible Opera Company of Tibet' which set the stage for various Gong reunions and off shoots. In 1994, Gong celebrated it's 25th anniversary with a massive festival at the Forum in London. This classic Gong line-up which hadn't played together since 1977 consisted of Allen, Tim Blake, Mike Howlett, Didier Malherbe, Pip Pyle, Steffi Sharpstrings, Gilli Smyth, and Shyamal Maitra.Recorded live on Oct 8th and 9th 1994, in London at the Forum.

Igor G. - 12/Feb/2019  Recorded live on Oct 8th and 9th 1994, in London at the Forum, this double-CD album (24 tracks, about 110 minutes), as the title suggests, celebrates the 25th anniversary of the legendary international Psyche-Space-Prog-Rock formation, GONG. The band’s line-up featured Daevid Allen, Tim Blake, Mike Howlett, Didier Malherbe, Pip Pyle, Stephen Lewry, Gilli Smyth, and Shyamal Maitra who hadn’t played together since 1977. Some tracks from classic Gong’s albums like “Camembert Electrique” (1971), “Flying Teapot” (1973), and “Angel's Egg” (1973) were included into the programme, though no particular era was represented here. “25th Birthday Party” is rather a magical mixture of old and new ingredients from throughout the band's history, which works amazingly coherent and tasty. The album is a sort of original show-musical that sounds fresh, current, energetic, adventurous, humorous, and mysterious. So, a new generation of psyche-prog fans will surely find the album entertaining and trippy, while dedicated fans can enjoy both new tunes and new variations on classic songs as well as quality sound-production. Of special note for lovers of impro-instrumental Psyche-Prog are two lengthy tracks opening Disc 2 – 10-minute "Clouds Again" by Blake, and 11-minute "Tri-Cycle Gliss" by Allen, Blake, Hillage, Howlett, Smyth. Highly recommended set.
