Description: | Recording with Glenn Gouldâ??s piano atstudio sessions on February 6 and 9, and May 20, 1963, Bill Evans used the method of overdubbing three different yet corresponding piano tracks for each of the songs on Conversations With Myself. The album features mostly traditional standards, with the exception of two compositions by Thelonious Monk, and one Evans original, â??N.Y.C.â??s No Larkâ? (which pays homage to Evansâ?? friend and fellow jazz pianist Sonny Clark, who had died one month before Evans began working on this album).
Conversations With Myself received a 5-star review in Down Beat in 1963 and earned Bill Evans his first Grammy Award
for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, Individual or Group the following year. 180-gram VIRGIN VINYL LIMITED GATEFOLD EDITION. - .. MYSELF / 180GR. / INCL. DOWNLOAD / BACK TO BLACKVinyl LP pressing. Recorded at three different studio sessions on February 6 and 9, and May 20, 1963, Evans recorded the album using the then-controversial method of overdubbing three different yet corresponding piano tracks for each song. It's an interesting combination of counterpointed lines and chords that Evans employs, with differing tempos and shadings that complement rather than contrast. Additionally, the usage of angular dialect à la Thelonious Monk and the witty discourse he can conjure with his own styles thicken and broaden the horizons of the usually spare harmonic inventions the pianist expresses on his own. There isn't a sticker on the sleeve, it's probably a repress of this edition .
The weight is 265g, so it's likely an 180g release, but there is not a sticker for that.
