Digitally re-mastered and expanded two CD edition of the Avant-Garde band's debut album. Hard Attack has been mastered from the original analog tapes for the first time since 1977 and remixed by the band. This definitive version includes 19 previously unreleased tracks, documenting the band from their early days to the moment they relocated to San Francisco and signed to the Residents' Ralph Records label. The singular and staggering innovation of MX-80 Sound still harkens to Rock's future potential. MX-80 Sound is one of the real oddities in American music. Their debut album, Hard Attack (released in the UK on Island Records), found little-to-no audience in the States upon it's release in 1977, yet remains a key document of the mid-'70s proto-punk zeitgeist. Hailing from Bloomington, Indiana, MX-80 Sound is lead by guitarist Bruce Anderson and defies simple classification with relentless riffs, dual drummers and vocalist Rich Stim's absurdist prose and dizzying sax. Assimilating the avant-rock of Captain Beefheart and conjuring the ghosts of Albert Ayler, MX-80 Sound evokes what free jazz would sound like if born in Bloomington.

CD 1, tracks 1-12 (Hard Attack) are the original 1977 album restored from the original analog tapes and remixed at Red Channels.. CD 2, tracks 1-22 (Bigger Hits) are unreleased recordings from 1976 to 1978. All songs on disc 1 recorded April 1977 at Gilroy Sound Studios, Bloomington, except for 1-7 which was recorded in 1976 & remixed in 1977. 2-1 & 2-10 are outtakes from the Hard Attack sessions. 2-2 & 2-9 live at Monroe County Public Library, Bloomington 15.10.76. 2-3, 5, 16 & 17 live at Monroe County Public Library 5.5.78. 2-4, 15, 18 & 21 are rehearsal recordings from 1977-78. 2-6, 8 & 12 live at Monroe County Public Library 18.2.77. 2-7 rehearsal at Home Grown Studios 25.9.76. 2-11, 13, 14 & 19 live at the Time Out Tavern, WQAX Music Festival, Bloomington 1976. 2-20 live at Monroe County Public Library 8.4.76 Packaging: standard plastic 2 x CD jewel box case, clear swing-tray, 16 page stapled cover booklet.
