Those Whom The Gods Detest

One of the best album of Nile. Although it is quite different from their early releases, this is still epic and destructive album.

This is the second Nile album that I listened to, and if the first (Black Seeds of Vengeance '2000) was able to impress me, then the second, to my great surprise, did even more! I did not find any cons on the album, the vocals, of course, have changed, but not for the worse. Growl became a little more diverse, while not losing brutality. Only at the beginning of the album was the presence of a certain semblance of scream a little annoying, and in the end, something that sounded like a Detkorov screech in the manner of “pig squeal”. The guys have the best technique, like on the 2000 album, and even better. Frantic speed, heavy rhythm and solo parts. I was pleased with the fact that here the atmosphere is created not only with stylized “Egyptian” acoustic inserts, but also with even the heaviest riffs on the album. And a man yelling prayers in Arabic in one of the compositions makes him plunge into the music completely :) The recording quality is simply gorgeous, I have never noticed that the guitars were drowned out by the sound of drums, or vice versa. What is also interesting is that with all the tricked out music, the album is remembered literally from the first listening. The verdict is this: the album is powerful, technical, interesting, and maybe not the best release of the year, but one of the best, that's for sure!

A really good death metal album, it makes you feel like you are walking on the streets of Nineveh or fighting alongside the Egyptians. As brutal as it gets, you can still feel the incredible oriental athmosphere. Proof that Karl Sanders and his bandmates are genius.
