Extra-Infos: .. Stairs
Description:Digitally re-mastered and expanded edition of this album from the Irish band led by Cathal Coughlan and Sean O'Hagan (The High Llamas). Originally released in 1985, the Clock Comes down the Stairs was the first of three albums-the other two are the ensuing releases Crooked Mile and 39 Minutes-on which this superb band finally got it right. It was never an easy equation for Microdisney to balance-the musical prettiness of Sean O'Hagan and the lyrical savagery of Cathal Coughlan-but it all adds up here rather wondrously. The Clock Comes down the Stairs seems to be Coughlan meticulously chronicling his own decline. As is invariably the case with Coughlan, however, the decline of everyone and everything else also gets a mention. This re-issue - made in conjunction with the band - contains rare single B-sides and the complete Peel session recorded at the time. With notes in collaboration with the band by Terry Staunton and a book packed with memorabilia this release serves as a great re-introduction to this finest of Irish bands. Cherry Red.
"The Clock Comes Down The Stairs" is the acclaimed 1985 album by Irish band Microdisney, now available in CD format from Cherry Red. This record stands as a landmark of literate pop, blending sharp social commentary with melodic sophistication and emotional depth. Featuring standout tracks like "Goodbye It's 1987," "Horse Overboard," and "Are You Happy?", the album showcases Microdisney's unique ability to pair biting lyrics with lush arrangements. Cherry Red, renowned for its dedication to reissuing classic and cult music across genres, ensures that this essential piece of indie history receives the attention it deserves through high-quality packaging and remastering. Microdisney was formed in Cork, Ireland by Cathal Coughlan (vocals) and Sean O'Hagan (guitar), quickly gaining recognition for their intelligent songwriting and distinctive sound?a fusion of pop sensibility with darkly satirical undertones. Their influence can be traced throughout alternative music scenes, having achieved critical acclaim during their active years in the 1980s before members went on to other successful projects such as The High Llamas and Fatima Mansions. Cherry Red Records has been a pivotal force in independent music since its founding in 1978. Known for championing innovative artists overlooked by mainstream labels, Cherry Red?s catalog spans punk, post-punk, new wave, folk-rock, electronic music and more?making them an ideal home for timeless releases like Microdisney?s seminal work.
