Description:
Polarnacht am Rande des Eismeers zwei Monate lang übersteigt die Sonne nicht den Horizont. Inmitten von Schnee, Eis und Dämmerung startet eine deutsche Auswandererfamilie hoffnungsvoll den Neuanfang: Niels (JÜRGEN VOGEL), Maria (BIRGIT MINICHMAYR) und Sohn Markus (HENRY STANGE). Schon nach kurzer Zeit spüren Niels und Maria, dass auch das neue Umfeld die erkaltete Beziehung nicht retten kann: Niels stürzt sich in seine Arbeit als Ingenieur und beginnt eine Affäre. Maria schiebt Überstunden im Hospiz und Markus muss an der Schule seinen Platz finden. Aber dann passiert in eisiger Nacht ein schrecklicher Unfall, der alles in Frage stellt. Die anfängliche Erstarrung weicht und wie durch ein Wunder wird dieses Unglück für die kleine Familie zum Wendepunkt: Das Geheimnis, das Maria und Niels fortan teilen, zwingt sie zur Auseinandersetzung und führt sie auf einen Weg zu Erlösung und Gnade.
