Description:Filmworks Viii by John Zorn, released 17 February 1998. This version of Filmworks Viii comes as a 1xCD. - W/ MARC RIBOT, ANTHONY COLEMAN, MARK FELDMAN
Zorn's Masada music has never sounded as beautiful or as evocative as in this recording originally created for "Port of Last Resort" - a film documentary about the Jewish refugees who escaped Nazi Germany by resettling to Shanghai. Augmenting the Masada String Trio with the sensual pipe of Min Xiao-Fen, guitarist Marc Ribot and pianist Anthony Coleman, this music blends Jewish and Chinese themes in a way that is fresh and touching. Also included is an exotic all-percussion score for Ela Troyano's quirky gay prono film "Latin Boys Go to Hell."
Tracks 1 to 11 were composed for a film entitled "The Port Of Last Resort", directed by Joan Grossman and Paul Rosdy. Tracks 12 to 21 were composed for a film entitled "Latin Boys Go To Hell", directed by Ela Troyano.
