Description:Calypso developed in the 19th century as a fusion of the various styles of Carnival music in Trinidad. By the 1920s, calypso had evolved from ribald and stick-fighting songs into more political and social commentary. Lord Invader (born Rupert Westmore Grant) was one of the singers who emerged during this time and took on warrior-like names. Calypso Travels is just one of the albums he recorded for Moses Asch while in New York in the 1950s. Liner notes include sheet music and song lyrics.
