| Description: | The George Lewis Solo Trombone Record by George Lewis, released 17 February 2011, includes the following tracks: "Untitled Dream Sequence" and more.
This version of The George Lewis Solo Trombone Record comes as a 1xCD. - Trombonist George Lewis was just 24 years old when he recorded this solo session in 1976. Already a member of Chicago's AACM since 1971 & a veteran contributor to Roscoe Mitchell's quartet, he had toured the U.S., Canada & Japan with the Count Basie Orchestra. Here he finds different ways to emphasize a principle of interactivity in a improvisational solo context. It's clearly there in the layered dialogues of the over-dubbed work on the first track, but it's also present in each of the three shorter pieces, whether it's an approach to the instrument, a fixed star in the repertoire, or the interaction of line & sonority.Recorded at Thunder Sound, Toronto on November 21st, 1976.
This CD is part of the Sackville Collection Series "The Creative Improvised Music Classics (1974-1980)", being recordings for the Sackville label made by Bill Smith in Toronto between 1974 and 1980 of "a newly emerging jazz avant-garde." "The music in the Sackville Collection is being released for the first time on CD in editions of 1000." (quote from back insert) |
