Description:Musical fans, we're calling you, oo-oo-oo, oo-oo-oo! Howard Keel and Ann Blyth (who would later team for Kismet) play stalwart Mountie and backwoods hellion in this grand color and Cinema Scope version of the beloved operetta. Filmed largely on location in the Canadian Rockies, Rose Marie combines a charming tale of a tomboy becoming a lady with two love triangles, a murder mystery, settler-vs.-Indian strife and glorious music, including four of the original stage production's tunes: Rose Marie, the Indian Love Call, the Mounties and in a knockout production number staged by Busby Berkeley, Totem Tom Tom. Another highlight: Bert Lahr's comic turn warbling the Mountie Who Never Got His Man.
"Rose Marie" is a classic musical romance film, available here in DVD format from the renowned studio MGM (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer). First released in 1936, this beloved movie stars Jeanette MacDonald as Rose Marie La Flamme and Nelson Eddy as Sergeant Bruce. The story follows the passionate love affair between an opera singer and a Canadian Mountie set against breathtaking wilderness landscapes. Directed by W.S. Van Dyke, "Rose Marie" is celebrated for its memorable songs such as "Indian Love Call," lush cinematography, and heartfelt performances. MGM stands among Hollywood's most iconic studios, known for producing legendary films like "Gone with the Wind," "The Wizard of Oz," and countless musicals that have shaped cinema history. Jeanette MacDonald was one of America's leading sopranos on screen during the 1930s and '40s, acclaimed for her roles in operettas such as "Naughty Marietta." Nelson Eddy became famous through his powerful baritone voice and frequent collaborations with MacDonald; together they formed one of cinema?s most cherished duos. Director W.S. Van Dyke earned fame for his efficiency ("One-Take Woody") and helmed classics including ?The Thin Man? series. Supporting cast members include Reginald Owen?renowned British actor?and Allan Jones, who later starred in Marx Brothers comedies.
